Kristen Quigley | Head Coach

I’m Kristen, and I’m excited to be your Head Coach this season. I’ve been involved in swimming for years, as a Division I athlete, an instructor, and most recently as an assistant coach at Simon Fraser University right here in Burnaby. My goal for the team is to help every swimmer build confidence in the water, develop great technique, and most importantly, have fun. I can’t wait to meet everyone and be a part of your Mantas journey this summer.

Fun Fact: I have a PhD in Neuroscience, and also hold a Master’s degree in Kinesiology, so you might say I love learning just as much as coaching.

Hey Everyone, my name is Daniel Canon. I am the Lead Coach for Senior and Intermediate groups and this will be my second season being a part of Mantas. I love to cook, and going out with my friends.

Fun Fact: When I was younger my breaststroke was faster than my freestyle.

Justin Wiebe | Lead Coach, Junior & Development

My name is Justin and I am the Lead Coach for Junior and Development. I swam with Mantas for ten years and this season will be my fifth summer coaching with the club. Some of my favourite hobbies include drawing and playing hockey.

Fun Fact: I played three different sports growing up.

Julia Bodnar | Group Coach, Senior B & Intermediate B

Hello! My name is Julia, and I am excited to be the Group coach for Senior B and Intermediate B! I have been coaching with the Mantas for six years, and have been swimming with the club since I was 10. As a coach, I aim to foster growth and enjoyment in this great sport. Besides swimming, I love playing all kinds of games.

Fun fact: Despite not enjoying sweets, baking is my favourite hobby. Go Mantas!!

Keira Lo | Group Coach, Senior B & Intermediate B

Hi Mantas families! My name is Keira and I’m the Senior B & Intermediate B Group Coach this season. I’ve been part of BMM since 2016 and have been a consecutive provincial qualifier! I’m super stoked to be coaching, getting to know the swimmers, and working towards growth and progression in each and every individual. I enjoy spending lots of quality time with my friends and exploring our city whenever I get the chance.

Evan Ghanason | Group Coach, Junior & Development

Hi Mantas, my name is Evan and I will be the coach of the Junior and Development groups for this summer season! I have been with the Mantas for 12 years and this will be my fourth year coaching. I enjoy watching movies and playing video games.

Fun fact: I kept making provincials in only breaststoke and it wasn’t even my best stroke!

Joran Orogo| Group Coach, Senior A

Hi everyone! I’m Joran and I am the Group Coach for Senior A. This is my second summer season coaching with the Mantas. I’ve been swimming competitively for a number of years, and my proudest achievement was representing the Philippines at the 2025 SEA Games. I enjoy coaching swimmers and seeing their technique improve.

Fun fact: I’m a UBC arts student when I’m not in the pool.

Vaughn Sandquist | Group Coach, Intermediate A

Hi Mantas! My name is Vaughn and I am the Group Coach for Intermediate A. I’ve been with this club for 4 years, and this is my second season coaching with this family! When I’m not swimming, I’m doing robotics, coding projects, and hanging out with friends.

Fun fact: I have a third Dan black belt in Taekwondo!

Hi Mantas family, my name is Matt and I am the Intermediate A group coach this season. I’m looking forward to working with the Intermediate As this summer, let’s smash some PB’s together. I’ve been swimming with the Mantas for 6 years and this is my third year coaching. Outside of swimming, I enjoy going backpacking, running and watching the Canucks play.

Fun Fact: The eyebrow slit I have is not an attempt to look cool, just a scar I have from being a clumsy kid on a flight of stairs.

Ryan Leslie | Group Coach, Junior

Hi everyone! My name is Ryan, and I’m super excited to be coaching with the Mantas for my first summer season. I am currently in my first year at SFU, where I study business and swim for the SFU NCAA team. I have also been coaching for almost five years now, which has helped me grow as both a leader and a swimmer. This summer, I’m excited to help swimmers build confidence in the water, improve their skills, and have fun being part of the team. I can’t wait for a great season with everyone!

Hi everyone! My name is Mia and I am one of the Development coaches. This will be my 10th year swimming with Mantas and third year coaching. Outside of swimming, I love dancing, baking, and hanging out with my friends. I am super excited to watch all the swimmers continue to grow throughout their time with Mantas in this new season!

Hi everyone! My name is Irene and I am thrilled to be a returning coach for the Mini Mantas program this year, and to be an assistant coach. Through my journey of 6 years as a Manta, I have met many inspiring people, medaled in several Regional and Provincial championships, and grown both as an athlete and a person. Through my experience, I hope to foster a passion for the sport in our new swimmers and have an unforgettable season this year 🙂

In my free time, I enjoy listening to music and watching hockey!

Hello everyone!
My name is Sasha and I’ve been with Mantas for 7 years. This is my second summer coaching the Minis, and I’m super excited! My goal for the Minis is to help them become confident in the water and, most importantly, have lots of fun. I’m super excited to see everyone and being in your first part of your journey as a Mantas swimmer. 

Outside of swimming I enjoy travelling, baking and going to the gym.

Hi everyone, Jonah here. This summer, I will be one of the coaches for your lovely children! A little info about me is that I’ve been with the club for 11 years now and this is my first summer season coaching. I believe why I like swimming so much and have done it for this long is due to the support and attitude of all my coaches over the years. This is why my goal for this summer is to provide a safe and fun environment for the kids so they improve and want to keep coming to practice.
